Quality and Evaluation

Evaluation of the teaching

Evaluation of the teaching

At University College Absalon, we systematically evaluate and follow up on the teaching. We use a brief questionnaire backed by detailed discussions in all classes. We have created a standard method that all lecturers must adhere to.

The aim of the evaluation is to assure and enhance the quality of the teaching through structured dialogue between lecturers and students.

That is why it is essential for you to complete the evaluations!

Our goal is to ensure that your insights and aspirations are acknowledged, and to support you consistently in reflecting on your input and learning requirements with the objective of providing optimal and engaging teaching experiences.

Evaluation process

At the conclusion of each course, a questionnaire is distributed to every member of the class. During the final session, the timetable includes two lessons allocated specifically to summary and evaluation activities, where you and your lecturer have the opportunity to discuss your personal learning and how the teaching might be improved. Time is likewise allocated for summarising the teaching provided.

The questionnaire
The questionnaire is brief and features questions centred on aspects such as whether the session comprises regular teaching, a work placement or a Bachelor Project. We have trialled the questions with students from a range of University College Absalon degree programmes. In addition, the questionnaire been validated by The Danish Evaluation Institute, an authority in educational assessments.

The evaluation software that we use – Blue – is utilised by numerous higher education institutions worldwide.

All data are processed confidentially and comply with GDPR requirements, which you can read more about here.

Discussion within the class about the teaching
At University College Absalon, we typically set aside a lesson for oral feedback on the teaching within the class. This takes place before we receive the results of the written feedback. We subsequently compare the results of the oral feedback with those from the written questionnaires.

During the oral feedback, teachers typically enquire about what aspects of the teaching were effective and which areas could be improved in the future. The aim is for you, as students, to become more aware of your own learning process and what is required to ensure optimal learning.

Report and follow-up
Upon completion of the written evaluation, the teacher receives a preliminary report. The teacher then adds his/her personal remarks to this report, incorporating insights from the oral feedback within the class. You will subsequently receive the final report.
