Information about compulsory activities and prerequisites to examination

From the Study Programme for the degree Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology:

“Compulsory attendance

For certain study activities, the compulsory participation is specified as compulsory attendance. Compulsory attendance is construed as the student's duty to attend, and actively participate in, specific activities relative to the degree programme.

At the Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology programme, attendance duty applies in connection with, for instance, laboratory exercises and internship. For study activities with compulsory attendance, documentation of compliance with attendance duty is kept.”

In the programme the activities mentioned below are compulsory with attendance duty, and prerequisite for examination. The course descriptions indicate which compulsory activities are relevant for each course. On this page you will find the general descriptions of these activities.

Laboratory Exercises

If you do not attend the laboratory exercises, you will lose your first examination attempt. Excemt for this is documented illness. If you have been ill; we will ensure that you can attend the missing laboratory exercises before ordinary exam.

If you have beenabsent without reason we will offer that you can catch up on missing laboratory exercises before the first re-examination (second examination attempt). If you do not attend these exercises or are ill, the above process applies: You lose another examination attempt (if you are not ill) and you will have the opportunity to catch up on missing exercises before your third and last examination attempt. This is the last chance to get the missing laboratory exercises and if you fail to attend, you will lose your last examination attempt and you will be warned excluded from the programme.

Written Asignments

The course manager sets the deadline for submission of written asignments.

If the assignments are not submitted before deadline, you will lose an examination attempt.

New deadline for submitting is 2 weeks before the date of the first re-examination, and if you do not submit before this, you have lost your second examination attempt.

New and final deadline is 2 weeks before date of second re-examination. If you do not submit to this deadline, you will lose your final examination attempt and will be warned excluded from the programme.

Lectures with external teacher and Participation in Company Visits

If you do not attend lectures with external teacher or participate in company visits, you will be given a replacement assignment for each activity that you have not attended. The deadline for submitting these replacement assignments is:

Fall semester: December 15th

Spring semester: June 15th

If you fail to submit before deadline you will lose your first examination attempt.

New deadline to submit is no later than 2 weeks before the date of the first re-examination. If you do not submit to the deadline, you have lost your second examination attempt.

New and final deadline is no later than 2 weeks before the date of second re-examination. If you do not submit to this deadline, you will lose your final examination attempt and will be warned excluded from the programme.

Internship

You must follow the guidelines for reporting illness provided from your company of internship. Failure to follow these guidelines may adversely affect the internship evaluation. The company's evaluation of your internship; including whether you have fulfilled the attendance duty, in combination with your internship report, is the basis for the assessment of the period of internship as a whole.
