Your Education Will Become Even More Impactful Going Forward

As a result of the 2025 national reform of Professional Bachelor’s and Academy Profession programmes, Absalon will introduce new initiatives from September 2026 concerning class sizes, teaching hours, and academic development meetings. The aim is to ensure that you, as a student, experience closer interaction with your lecturers and gain even greater benefit from your education.

The initiatives include:

1. Class Size

At Absalon, each class will have a maximum of 40 students. If a class exceeds 40 students, additional lecturers will be assigned.

2. Minimum Number of Teaching Hours

Each programme will include a minimum of 12 teaching hours per ECTS credit (with the exception of internship periods and the bachelor’s project/examination).

For example, this corresponds to 18 teaching hours per week in a semester with 20 teaching weeks — and more weekly teaching hours if the semester includes fewer teaching weeks.

3. Individual Development Meeting Each Semester

You will be offered a 45-minute, in-person individual development meeting each semester. The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss your academic and professional development throughout your studies.

The new framework will be implemented gradually. Initially, it will apply to students in their first and second semesters, and it will later be extended to the remaining semesters.

What This Means for the Teacher Education Programme

Currently, the vast majority of you are enrolled in classes with fewer than 40 students. As a result, the Teacher Education programme will not experience significant changes in class sizes going forward.

However, there may be specific classes or activities where it is academically or socially beneficial for more than 40 students to participate. In such cases, additional lecturers will be present.

Online (e-learning) formats are not subject to the 40-student class size requirement.

In the future, some semesters will include an increased number of teaching hours.

The Teacher Education programme already includes one annual academic guidance meeting. From summer 2026 onwards, you will be offered an academic development meeting each semester.
