From September 2026, Your Programme Will Operate Within a New Shared Framework
As a result of the 2025 national reform of Professional Bachelor’s and Academy Profession programmes, Absalon has been given the opportunity to introduce new shared quality standards across all programmes and campuses from September 2026.
The new initiatives focus on smaller class sizes, more teaching hours, and academic development meetings.
The reform provides additional funding for the programmes and creates new opportunities to strengthen the framework for teaching and learning. On this basis, Absalon is introducing new shared requirements that will apply to all programmes.
These quality standards build on the strong foundation already in place at Absalon and are designed to ensure clear and consistent frameworks across programmes and campuses. The aim is to ensure that you, as a student, experience closer interaction with your lecturers and gain even greater benefit from your education.
What Are the New Initiatives?
The new quality standards consist of three key elements:
1. Class Size
At Absalon, each class will have a maximum of 40 students. If a class exceeds 40 students, additional lecturers will be assigned.
2. Minimum Number of Teaching Hours
Each programme will include a minimum of 12 teaching hours per ECTS credit (with the exception of internship periods and the bachelor’s project/examination).
For example, this corresponds to 18 teaching hours per week in a semester with 20 teaching weeks — and more weekly teaching hours if the semester includes fewer teaching weeks.
For most programmes, this will mean an increase in weekly teaching hours. For a few programmes, the current level already meets this requirement.
3. Individual Development Meeting Each Semester (Phased Implementation)
You will be offered a 45-minute, in-person individual development meeting each semester.
The meeting focuses on your academic and professional development throughout your studies.
The development meetings will be introduced gradually. From the start of the academic year in September 2026, they will initially apply to students in their first and second semesters. The scheme will later be extended to additional semesters.
What Does This Mean for You?
The new requirements do not change the overall expectations regarding your total weekly study activity.
The requirements apply to all programmes — both current and future students.
Smaller classes and more teaching hours create better opportunities for dialogue in teaching and for strengthening the link between theory and practice.
The development meetings give you the opportunity to discuss your academic progress throughout your programme.
“Education That Makes a Difference” and Absalon’s Educational Promise
At Absalon, we work with the principle of “Education That Makes a Difference.” The new shared quality standards are closely linked to Absalon’s Educational Promise, under which our programmes are characterised by:
Profession-oriented simulation and practice-based teaching
An academically and socially inclusive start to your studies
Professional collaboration in study groups
Professional and personal development
Focus on students’ interests and ambitions
A vibrant study environment
What Will Your Programme Look Like Going Forward?
The impact of the changes will vary from programme to programme. It also differs when the reform will affect your specific programme in other respects.
You can read more about what the changes specifically mean for your programme on Studienet under your programme and “reform.”
