Qualifications
Competences corresponding to semesters 1-4 of the programme Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology.
Objectives
The course is focused on the organization and management of engineering companies. The course will provide the student with a basic understanding of operation, management and communication in a production-based business.
Content
The course comprises aspects related to production and business management on an operational and practical level:
- Management and communication
- Change management
- Stakeholder management
- Performance management
- Lean and Six Sigma
- Financial management in overall terms
Learning targets
On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:
Knowledge
- Provide an explanation of the business organisation, governance, and strategy
- Insight into Operation Management and People Management
- Insight into practical management and motivation
Skills
- Prepare action plans for the implementation of changes
- Planning of a seminar and included in this management of a classroom exercise
- Taking part in practical exercises on finance, lean, change management, and operation management
Competences
- Be able to communicate with people from various professions
- Receive and give fellow students feedback on classroom management and presentations
- Apply performance management in the context of a production plant
- Translate management theory into practice
Teaching method
Class-based teaching, group work, and seminars.
Qualifications for examination participation
- Fulfilment of the requirements for compulsory participation as given in the study programme part 2.4.
- Participation in all planned teaching activities
All shall be executed pursuant to guidelines set out by the course manager.
Examination and aids
- Submission of individually prepared synopsis
- Individual oral examination based the synopsis. Duration of examination: 30 min.
Permitted aids: Synopsis. No access to the internet.
The final marking will be an overall assessment of the written synopsis and the performance at the oral examination.
